Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is PGDRM?

The Post Graduate Diploma in Risk Management (PGDRM) is a one-year, full-time, on-campus programme offered at GRMI’s Gurugram campus. It is designed for individuals looking to specialise in the field of risk management.

Who can pursue the PGDRM programme?

Graduates from any academic background and working professionals with 0–4 years of work experience can pursue the full-time PGDRM programme. It is suitable for individuals looking to gain specialised knowledge in risk management and explore career opportunities in areas such as risk consulting, financial risk, internal audit and governance.

How is the one-year PGDRM programme structured?

The PGDRM is a one-year, full-time programme designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical exposure in risk management within a focused timeframe. The programme comprises 10 months of classroom learning, covering over 1,000 hours of industry-relevant education, followed by two months of full-time industry internship.

This structure allows students to develop a strong understanding of risk management concepts, build relevant professional skills and gain practical industry exposure through an internship. The one-year format brings together academic learning and practical experience, preparing students to transition into risk management roles.

Can I pursue the PGDRM programme if I have no prior knowledge of risk management?

Yes. Prior knowledge or experience in risk management is not required to pursue the PGDRM programme. Graduates from any academic background can apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Having strong logical reasoning, analytical thinking and business acumen can be helpful in understanding risk management concepts.

The programme follows a practical, case-study-based approach, with sessions led by experienced industry practitioners. This helps students build their understanding of risk management from the fundamentals and develop skills relevant to industry requirements.

Why should I pursue a career in Risk Management?

Effective risk management is becoming increasingly critical across industries, including services, manufacturing, telecommunications, hospitality, consulting, banking and financial services, among others. The risk advisory services market alone is valued at over USD 15 billion and is growing at an annual rate of 15%.

The top 250 companies spend approximately USD 30–50 million each on risk-related activities. This growing market creates significant career opportunities in the fields of finance and risk management for aspiring professionals.

For those looking to gain specialised knowledge in the field of Financial Risk Management, the PGDRM programme is particularly useful, as it includes comprehensive coverage of the FRM course.

With no structured and comprehensive programme available in India or even globally to address the significant skills gap in this field, risk management professionals trained at GRMI will have an edge over other professionals in this space.

Why Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI)?

Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI) is the only institute in India and globally that provides comprehensive coverage of risk management. Its curriculum is specially designed to cover all facets of risk management. It caters to the growing demand for risk professionals across consulting firms and corporates in India, making it one of the preferred courses after B.Com.

GRMI is committed to maintaining a strong governance structure, with active engagement, mentoring and support from its governing leaders. The institute is overseen by four governing bodies: the Board of Directors, Strategy Board, Global Advisory Board and Academic Council. These bodies include prominent national and international figures from industry, consulting and academia. The senior management team, comprising the founding members of the institution, including the Dean, President and Programme Director, collectively brings more than 50 years of corporate experience.

GRMI strives to provide an environment where students can interact with senior global business leaders and risk practitioners. The institute is privileged to have industry and consulting leaders associated with it who are committed to sharing their knowledge and experience with students.

We believe that the depth of experience these leaders bring adds significant value to students’ learning journeys. GRMI therefore takes pride in creating an experiential learning environment that is unparalleled among other Indian institutions.

What is the USP of GRMI?

In current market scenario, the one thing which can easily be termed as our USP is the placement opportunities for all our students, to serve a USD 40 B+ market growing at a steady pace, however, we believe that’s an end product that we are committed to deliver, and not really our USP.

We have consistently maintained a 98% placement record, with a median CTC of ₹9.75 LPA. We also believe in complete transparency and provide detailed information about our students' placements on our Internship and Placement page.

Why PGDRM?

Since PGDRM is a one-year programme, it gives students a significant advantage over two-year programmes through its focus on specialised skills in the niche field of risk management and the return on investment (ROI) it offers. The faculty comprises industry and academic professionals, and the curriculum incorporates business scenarios and real-life case studies. PGDRM is a specialised postgraduate programme for graduates aiming to build a career in risk management.

After completing graduation, students reach a critical stage where choosing the right career direction becomes important. At this stage, it is essential to make a well-informed career choice that aligns with their long-term objectives. Specialised education programmes are gaining prominence as industries increasingly seek professionals with specialised knowledge and skills rather than general management qualifications.

If you are looking for accelerated career growth, with opportunities to learn and contribute to organisational success, you should explore a career in risk management. If you enjoy problem-solving, analytical thinking and contributing to organisational performance, you may be well suited to this field. Risk management opens up global career opportunities across industries, including consulting, manufacturing, services, telecommunications, hospitality, banking and financial services, among others. It is a promising career option for graduates considering specialised professional courses.

In our experience, young aspirants with a passion for learning, strong analytical skills, logical thinking abilities, an understanding of business and good communication skills can develop into successful risk management professionals.

Is the PGDRM programme accredited?

Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI) is recognised by the Management and Entrepreneurship & Professional Skills Council (MEPSC), which operates under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India. MEPSC is a recognised Awarding Body under the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).

GRMI qualifications are also recognised by OTHM, UK. OTHM Qualifications is an awarding organisation approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), UK, and recognised by Qualifications Wales.

GRMI alumni have secured employment opportunities at leading organisations, with career outcomes comparable to, and in some cases better than, those of graduates from established postgraduate programmes in India.

Does GRMI award an MBA degree?

GRMI does not provide a degree.

Is PGDRM an alternative to an MBA or Master’s degree?

The world is moving towards specialisation. As organisations increasingly value professionals with specialised knowledge and skills, developing expertise in a specific field can help individuals build stronger career prospects in the long run. We believe that the PGDRM programme at GRMI can be considered an alternative for those seeking specialised postgraduate education. It is a full-time, one-year classroom-based programme with a cutting-edge curriculum and extensive use of live case studies to provide students with practical learning experience.

In addition to specialised papers in risk management, we also focus on the all-round development of our students. The curriculum includes carefully selected subjects such as HR, organisational behaviour, cyber risk and strategic thinking, which can benefit students in their corporate careers. We have also incorporated a unique Communication and Cultural Enhancement Module into our student development programme. Delivered through the year in a highly personalised manner, the module aims to help students improve their communication skills and cultural awareness, both of which are important for a successful global career.

At GRMI, our endeavour is to build an ecosystem for risk professionals. To achieve this, we bring consulting organisations, industry leaders and aspiring risk professionals together on a common platform to explore opportunities to work with and learn from leading professionals in the risk management space.

Our discussions with leaders from risk consulting firms and corporates indicate that the combination of deep domain knowledge and all-round development offered through the PGDRM programme can help students progress faster in their careers compared with peers entering the field with more general qualifications. This is particularly relevant for professionals pursuing careers in risk, compliance, controllership and internal audit.
